Valid passports or other travel documents are required by all visitors to Hong Kong.
Nationals of some countries may not need visas for short-term stays in Hong Kong.
Nationals of our major trading partners who do not need visas include:
up to six months:
United Kingdom.
up to three months:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and US.
up to one month:
South Africa, South Korea and Thailand.
up to 14 days:
India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Poland and the United Arab Emirates.
EMPLOYMENT / WORK PERMITS
Visitor visas do not entitle the holder to take up employment. Persons wishing to do so must show evidence that they have been offered employment in Hong Kong, and must be in possession of an Employment Visa. Applicants may submit their visa applications to the nearest Chinese embassy/consulate-general in their place of residence. With few exceptions, visitors must leave Hong Kong to obtain a work permit, though some preliminary work may be done during a normal visit.
HONG KONG IDENTITY CARD
Any person staying in Hong Kong for more than three months is required to have a Hong Kong Identity Card.
